Carbon Reduction Plan for Fuel Learning Limited

1. Introduction

Fuel Learning is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050. In line with the UK Government’s commitment under the Climate Change Act and in reference to Procurement Policy Note (PPN) 06/21, this plan outlines the steps we will take to reduce our carbon emissions and contribute to a sustainable future.

2. Baseline Emissions

To effectively reduce our carbon emissions, we first need to establish a baseline. This involves calculating our current emissions across three scopes:

  • Scope 1: Direct emissions from owned or controlled sources (e.g., fuel combustion in company vehicles).

  • Scope 2: Indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, steam, heating, and cooling.

  • Scope 3: All other indirect emissions that occur in our value chain (e.g., employee commuting, waste disposal).

3. Emission Reduction Targets

We are currently engaging with external specialists to accurately measure our emissions and determine accurate milestones. We will update our CRP accordingly but early indications allow us to aim to achieve the following reduction targets:

  • Short-term (by 2030): Reduce GHG emissions by 20% from the baseline year.

  • Medium-term (by 2040): Reduce GHG emissions by 50% from the baseline year.

  • Long-term (by 2050): Achieve Net Zero GHG emissions.

4. Action Plan

To meet our emission reduction targets, we will implement the following actions:

Energy Efficiency

Conduct energy audits to identify areas for improvement.

  • Ensure we use energy-efficient lighting, heating, and cooling systems at our Head Office. The building is already low energy.

  • Transitioning to a fully cloud-based IT infrastructure solution (eliminating on-premises server infrastructure).

  • Install smart meters to monitor and manage energy consumption.

  • Maximise recycling and green disposal methods (e.g., of technology and equipment).

Renewable Energy

  • Transition to renewable and greener energy sources (e.g., solar panels).

  • Work with premises owner to identify green solutions for site and occupied building/s on (e.g., purchase green energy from certified suppliers).

Transportation

  • Promote the use of public transport, cycling, and walking for employees based at Head Office.

  • Implement a carpooling program.

  • Transition to electric or hybrid company vehicles where possible – To support this, implement salary sacrifice EV/Hybrid purchase and lease options within the benefits scheme.

  • Optimizing travel routes for those attending client sites.

  • Encouraging remote meetings and extending Work From Home policy and allowance.

  • Invest in Carbon Offset projects to compensate for unavoidable emissions and those that cannot be fully eliminated, and offsetting unavoidable emissions through carbon credits when necessary.

Waste Management

  • Implement a comprehensive recycling program.

  • Reduce paper usage by transitioning to digital documents and communications through Digital First/Paperless approach and policy.

  • Ban single-use plastics and encourage the use of reusable items through provision of appropriate items (e.g., cups, crockery and cutlery, food storage containers etc).

  • Engage with like-minded suppliers that adhere to our commitments (e.g., no plastic catering)

Employee Engagement

  • Educate and engage employees on sustainability practices.

  • Establish a designated Environmental Lead and ‘green team’ to manage and promote environmental initiatives.

  • Establishing a partnership with an ESG consultancy to create long-term ESG strategy, monitoring and reporting measures and accreditation.

  • Encourage remote working to reduce commuting emissions.

  • Embed smart scheduling to make in-person meetings and activities efficient and reduce waste.

5. Monitoring and Reporting

We will regularly monitor our progress and report on our carbon reduction efforts. This includes:

  • Annual emissions inventory (Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions).

  • Regular updates on the implementation of the action plan.

  • Transparent reporting to stakeholders, clients and public on our progress and achievements through transparent reporting.

6. Conclusion

Fuel Learning is dedicated to reducing its carbon footprint and contributing to a sustainable future. By implementing this carbon reduction plan, we aim to achieve our emission reduction targets and support the UK's commitment to Net Zero by 2050.
